This week at CMA: MIX at CMA: Terrific, "Brand-New & Terrific: Alex Katz in the 1950s" On View Now
Check out these five must-attend events this week at the CMA!
|MIX at CMA: Terrific
Explore the innovative portraits, still lifes, and landscapes of artist Alex Katz in the exhibition Brand-New & Terrific: Alex Katz in the 1950s. Enjoy art activities inspired by the artist’s work, catch the Americana band the Gage Brothers in the atrium, and check out the outdoor Great Lakes beer garden for a drink and fresh air.
Directed by Frederick Wiseman. Wiseman’s second documentary is a frank, often funny, fly-on-the-wall look at the daily activities within Philadelphia’s Northeast High School during spring 1968. Selected for the Library of Congress’s National Film Registry in 1991.
Open Now: Reeds and Geese: Japanese Art from the Collection of George Gund III
Through Sun, 9/3
See ink paintings from the gift of George Gund III, on view for the first time since 2000, alongside a selection of additional works from the CMA’s collection.
|Open Now: Brand-New & Terrific: Alex Katz in the 1950s
Through Sun, 8/6
Discover Alex Katz’s innovative paintings of the 1950s in the first major museum exhibition of these works. Combining abstraction with recognizable imagery, Katz’s boldly simplified portraits and landscapes foreshadowed the development of Pop Art.
Through Sun, 7/30
Come check out powerful photographs taken by Louis Draper and Leonard Freed. This exhibition presents two views of African American daily life during the civil rights era through the photographs of Louis Draper, a black fine art photographer, and Leonard Freed, a white photojournalist.
